


LANSING, Mich. — State Rep. Mike Harris has been named the Legislator of the Year by the Michigan Health Purchasers Coalition in recognition of his work to strengthen transparency and affordability in Michigan’s health insurance market.
The Michigan Health Purchasers Coalition is an organization that mobilizes employers and other healthcare stakeholders to rein in high costs inMichigan’s employer-sponsored health care system. The group selected Harris for his leadership on efforts to improve accountability in the health care system and protect families from unexpected costs.
“Health care is one of the biggest household expenses for working families,” Harris said. “People deserve transparency in their pricing and stability in the coverage they receive. I am grateful for this recognition and will continue working to protect Michigan families from rising costs and confusing policies.”
Harris chairs the House Insurance and Financial Services Committee, where he has advocated for consumer-focused reforms to improve insurance affordability, promote fair competition, and give families better tools to navigate their coverage options.
The Michigan Health Purchasers Coalition selects its Legislator of the Year based on leadership, bipartisan collaboration, and a commitment to practical solutions that strengthen employer-sponsored health plans. In addition to Harris, the coalition also named Rep. Brenda Carter, D-Pontiac, as a legislator of the year.
